Make it easy for your readers to find out when new content is added to your RSS-enabled web site by adding a Yahoo! Alerts action button. When a visitor to your site clicks this button on your page, he or she can set up an alert to receive updates every time your page changes.

This button is easy to set up. Readers can receive alerts whenever your feed is updated - via email, Yahoo! Messenger or mobile device.

For readers, it’s a powerful way to stay up to date with your content. For you, it is a fast, free and simple way to build an engaged user base.

Add the alert button javascript to your web page templates

First, add a pointer to the control javascript called “yactions.js” in the header of your page templates. This should sit within your header tags, though it can be anywhere on the page if necessary. For example, the top of your page might look like this:

Second, insert the button code wherever you want the button to appear (it’s a perfect complement to the Add to My Yahoo! button):Add to My Yahoo!

Replace RSS-FEED-URL-GOES-HERE with your feed’s URL, and BUTTONID with a unique alphanumeric string (no special characters). If you put more than one button on a page, you must have a unique BUTTONID to identify each one.

That’s it! Add to My Yahoo!

Did you know Yahoo! offers other free action buttons to make it easy for people to find, use and share your content? Visit the Yahoo! Publisher Network for more information.

You might also want to join the Yahoo! Social Media Tools group– it’s a place to share questions, comments or new feature requests, with us and with other people who are using these buttons and other social media tools.
