<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">Was it ever possible that a product is designed and produced by not the same person or company? Sounds creepy right? But you wouldn’t believe the result of the tandem of Vestalife, the award-winning lifestyle electronics company, and world-recognized strategy and industrial design consultancy RKS.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;"><span id="more-391"></span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><img class="size-full wp-image-392 aligncenter" title="vestalife-jewelbox-speaker1" src="http://www.gadgetbites.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/vestalife-jewelbox-speaker1.jpg" alt="" width="450" height="346" /></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">The metal rings on the base, front, and rear of the Firefly add a refined, sophisticated feel. Angled, hidden hinges allow the Firefly speakers to open, not just to the sides, but also moving slightly forward, in a welcoming and embracing posture. In front of the iPod dock, there’s a subtly-curved, touch-sensitive volume control. With the speakers open, a “billboard” area is revealed on the center face of the Firefly. The Firefly will come with interchangeable faceplates to allow for personalization. Factory customized faceplates will also be featured in limited edition models of the Firefly. (Insert picture of firefly)</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">For the Jewelbox, the RKS design team was inspired both by the velvety, rich textures used in the Ladybug and by the famed Fabergé eggs. A symbol of the height of luxury, Fabergé eggs are known for their artistry, rich detail, and for the promise of a hidden surprise. In this case, the hidden magic is the opening of the Jewelbox to reveal the speakers and the iPod dock. The touch-sensitive power and volume controls give the Jewelbox a friendly smile whether opened or closed. The speakers are designed to accommodate factory-changeable graphics for special edition models. (Insert picture of jewelbox).</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">This will only show that with great tandem comes a very great creation.</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">However, Vertu&#8217;s monopoly of the luxury phone market is coming to an end with the launch of several new luxury mobile makers, including Gresso, Mobiado and GoldVish. Other mobile phone manufacturers are also partnering with luxury brands to produce a range of premium mobile phones, such as LG and Prada, D&amp;G and Motorola, and now Tag Heuer and Modelabs. Finally, there are the ridiculous, super-expensive one-offs, made purely for headline grabbing.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">10. Gresso Luxury Phone = </span></strong><strong><span style="font-size: 10pt;">$</span></strong><strong><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">expensive</span></strong></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.gadgetbites.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/gresso-luxury-phone.jpg"><img class="size-full wp-image-294 alignright" title="gresso-luxury-phone" src="http://www.gadgetbites.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/gresso-luxury-phone.jpg" alt="" width="180" height="166" /></a><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">The Russia based Gresso, is a new entry into the luxury phone market. Their aptly name &#8220;Gresso Luxury Phone&#8221; is made of gold and African Blackwood. Apparently they will be releasing a collection of five models called the Black Aura collection, and the designer is a &#8220;well known&#8221; Italian designer. Currently there are two versions of the African Blackwood phone, one with pink gold highlights named the Gresso Blackwood Gold Edition, and one made entirely of African Blackwood. In addition to the two African Blackwood phones Gresso also make a phone made entirely of pink gold named the Gresso Gold phone. Initially, the phones will be on sale only in Russia.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">9. Lamborghini 8800 Sirocco from Nokia = $To be announced</span></strong></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">The Lamborghini Nokia 8800 Sirocco is another special edition, like the previously launch Aston Martin branded Sirocco. It will ultimately be a standard 8800 Sirocco but with the addition of the famous Lamborghini logo engraved on the font and the back, plus ball bearings from the auto company to in the slider phone mechanism. The Lamborghini phone will be a limited edition with only 500 being made. It will also feature Lamborghini graphics as wallpapers, screensavers, ringtones, and even has a short documentary video about the Lamborghini.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">8. Bang &amp; Olufsen (Samsung) Serene = $1,250 (</span></strong><strong><span style="font-size: 10pt;">$</span></strong><strong><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">675)</span></strong></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.gadgetbites.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/bang-olufsen.jpg"><img class="size-full wp-image-295 alignright" title="bang-olufsen" src="http://www.gadgetbites.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/bang-olufsen.jpg" alt="" width="150" height="163" /></a><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">Bang &amp; Olufsen hooked up with Samsung to design the sleek but unconventional Serene. Its not a bad looking phone and it even has a built-in motor to assist you in opening and closing the phone. It&#8217;s not very practical however, requiring a special screwdriver to access the battery and the SIM card, and its circular keypad will take some getting used to. Also, for some strange reason they have positioned the camera lens on the side of the device, which will make it difficult to align snapshots via the viewfinder on the display.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">7. Mobiado Professional EM (wood) = $1,900 (</span></strong><strong><span style="font-size: 10pt;">$</span></strong><strong><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">1,027)</span></strong></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">The Mobiado Professional EM, is a wood-clad upgrade of their earlier Nokia-based phone that includes a 1.3 megapixel camera, music player, FM radio, Bluetooth, and according to Mobiado it&#8217;s the first production phone with Titanium buttons. Only 200 are made and each one has its limited number engraved on the back. At $1,900 however, you&#8221;re still paying an awfully high premium for a fairly basic phone encased in wood!</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">6. Gold Edition Nokia 8800 Phone = $2,700 (</span></strong><strong><span style="font-size: 10pt;">$</span></strong><strong><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">1,459)</span></strong></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">If you have $2,700 to spare, you can now buy the Nokia 8800 in 24K gold. However, be warned, if you think you&#8217;ll be getting a better phone for your extra cash, you won&#8217;t! The features found on the Gold Edition are the standard 8800 features, which are pretty basic. It includes a 0.5 Mega pixel SVGA camera, 64 MB of internal memory, 64 voice polyphonic rigntones, FM Radio, Mp3 Player, video recording and 180 mins talktime. However, the Gold Edition does includes a special edition box and charging dock!</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">5. Motorola V220 Special Edition = </span></strong><strong><span style="font-size: 10pt;">$</span></strong><strong><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">28,000 ($51,800)</span></strong></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">Austrian designer Peter Aloisson, has taken a standard Motorola, studded it with 1,200 diamonds and added a keyboard inlaid with 18 carat gold. The outcome is a </span><span style="font-size: 10pt;">$</span><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">28,000 handset, suitable only for footballers and film stars!</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">4. Vertu Diamond = $88,000 (</span></strong><strong><span style="font-size: 10pt;">$</span></strong><strong><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">47,567)</span></strong></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">The Diamond is Vertu&#8221;s premium range of high-end mobile phones. As the name suggests the handsets in the Diamond range are diamond-encrusted handsets made from platinum. Only 200 of the handsets are produced, the most expensive believed to be worth an estimated </span><span style="font-size: 10pt;">$</span><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">50,000.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">3. Sony Ericsson Black Diamond = $300,000 (</span></strong><strong><span style="font-size: 10pt;">$</span></strong><strong><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">162,162)</span></strong></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.gadgetbites.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/sony-ericsson-black-diamond.jpg"><img class="size-full wp-image-296 alignright" title="sony-ericsson-black-diamond" src="http://www.gadgetbites.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/sony-ericsson-black-diamond.jpg" alt="" width="180" height="118" /></a><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">The Black Diamond has been available in 2007, not from Sony Ericsson but by a company called VIPN. Initially only 5 unique numered pieces are available for the unbelievable price of, wait for it… $300,000.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">With regards to the specifications, don&#8217;t expect anything remarkable for your money. It will have Quad-band with Wi-Fi, an Intel 400Mhz processor running windows mobile 5, and a touch sensitive 2&#8243; screen. It will also include internal memory of 128mb and will come with a 2Gb SD card for external storage, plus a respectable 4 Megapixel camera.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">The designer Jaren Goh has used some pretty impressive materials for the build, featuring titane with polycarbonate, mirror-finish cladding and diamonds.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">2. Vertu Signature Cobra = $310,000 (</span></strong><strong><span style="font-size: 10pt;">$</span></strong><strong><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">167,567)</span></strong></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">Vertu takes orders for the Signature Cobra, designed by French jeweler Boucheron; only 8 are being made! The Cobra features one pear-cut diamond, one round white diamond, two emerald eyes and 439 rubies. Vertu will also be offering a &#8220;cheaper&#8221; version, ruby free, at $115,000 (</span><span style="font-size: 10pt;">$</span><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">62,162).</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">1. Goldvish &#8220;Le million&#8221; = $1,000,000 (</span></strong><strong><span style="font-size: 10pt;">$</span></strong><strong><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">540,540)</span></strong></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.gadgetbites.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/goldvish.jpg"><img class="size-full wp-image-297 alignright" title="goldvish" src="http://www.gadgetbites.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/goldvish.jpg" alt="" width="180" height="118" /></a><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">A PR stunt it may be, and they surely can&#8217;t be expecting to sell any, but the Goldvish &#8220;Le million&#8221; is officially the most expensive mobile phone in the world, according the Guiness Books of Records. There&#8217;s even been talk of a $1.3million phone, but this has fewer diamonds than the Goldvish so I can&#8217;t see where the extra expense comes from! The &#8220;Le million&#8221; is a one off, featuring a blinding 120 carats worth of VVS-1 grade diamonds, according to designer Emmanuel Gueit. If $1 million is out of your price range, the Geneva-based Goldvish also offer several other diamond-encrusted 18k gold models in your choice of rose, yellow, or white, starting at a much more reasonable $25,600 (</span><span style="font-size: 10pt;">$</span><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">13,837).</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">Want a Cell phone that turns into a Robot? Me too. But while there’s little hope any of us will ever get their very own Transformer, a Japanese company called Softbank Mobile Corp. wants to hook you up with the next best thing. It’s called the PhoneBraver, and looks like a small humanoid robot with arms, legs, and faces. The little monster’s bodies are made up of the cell phone itself.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">This doesn’t require canabalizing or damaging your Cell phone. The phone actually remains functional. It even comes with enough A.I. to recognize and comment upon the user’s habits. The PhoneBraver is only capable of understanding eyes and action responses, but still. Talking into your phone isn’t new, but talking to JUST your phone certainly is.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">Some of you (Read: most of you) are wondering Why? The answer lies in Japanese’s cultural love of humanoids and robots in general. In some cases, automated machines (that you could technically call a robot) have replaced security guards, receptionists, and other functions on the island nation, which also happens to be a technological powerhouse. Seriously. Robots? My VCR is still blinking 12:00 am. Ah, yes I still have a VCR. It doesn’t do anything anymore; just tell that one time, every second of every day. But I digress.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><strong><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">A Cultural Propensity for Robots</span></strong></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.gadgetbites.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/phonebraver-1-at-gadgetbites.jpg"><img class="size-medium wp-image-283 alignright" title="phonebraver-1-at-gadgetbites" src="http://www.gadgetbites.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/phonebraver-1-at-gadgetbites-300x225.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="225" /></a></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">Aside from being the absolute boss when it comes to handheld electronics, Japan also has a pretty hard-core cellular phone market. The robot phones themselves were inspired by an upcoming television series entitled Cell Phone Investigator 7. I’ve not seen it, and probably never will. But that doesn’t mean this isn’t cool.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">The phones-turned-miniature robots are designed to comment upon the user’s habits. Calling a certain person often will elicit a response. This is good for lonely people, although the pragmatic uses of a robot-phone are few. The arms and legs are opposable, but the PhoneBraver won’t be able to move around on it’s own (Thank God).</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.gadgetbites.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/phonebraver-3-at-gadgetbites.jpg"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-284" title="phonebraver-3-at-gadgetbites" src="http://www.gadgetbites.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/phonebraver-3-at-gadgetbites.jpg" alt="" width="410" height="308" /></a></p>

Dubbed Ion-Mask, the technology is in every pair of Hi-Tec shoes and works by repelling water while keeping feet completely dry.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">Ion-Mask technology permanently alters the surface of a shoe’s fabric at a molecular level to repel water and other liquids, making the shoe water-proof. This technology also lets the feet breathe, ensuring that users enjoy utmost comfort on any adventure.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">Flying to Manila to meet with members of the media and oversee the market introduction of Hi-Tec shoes in the Philippines, Steve Rogers, zone manager for Asia of Hi-Tec Sports International says, “Ion-mask is a patented plasma based technology, originally developed for the British military to protect soldiers from chemical attack.”</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">As a surface enhancement technology Ion-Mask works by invisibly binding polymers to each individual fiber. The benefits are as transparent as the technology itself, with minimal consumption and negligible waste, Ion-mask enhancement represents a quantum leap in footwear technology.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">According to Steve, “Hi-Tec shoes are best suited for light hiking and extensive long hikes because it’s lightweight, breathable, water-repellent and remains clean because nothing sticks to the product.”</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">Steve further mentioned that they plan to expand their share in Asia. ”We’re very active in China where we have 30 exclusive shops. In the next 5 years, we hope to grow our revenue from $250 million annually to $500 million and this growth will be fueled by Asia,” says Steve.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana;">Hi-Tec is exclusively distributed in the Philippines by Philgear International Inc. and is available at Rox, High St. Bonifacio, SM Department Store North Edsa, Olympic World Alabang, Trinoma, Robinson’s Ermita, Filinvest, Cebu; Habagat – SM Megamall, Khumbu- Trinoma and Bratpack- Cagayan.</span></p>

You know who we&#8217;re talking about: Montel Williams bases whole episodes around you, the kind of person who reuses tea bags and separates sheets of triple-ply paper towels. Unfortunately, it now looks like you now have one less trick at your disposal. According to Zach Honig over at Gearlog, running your MacBook or MacBookPro without its battery (trying to squeeze out an extra month or two of battery life) will cause a significant performance decrease: we&#8217;re talking upwards of 40 percent. When he checked Apple&#8217;s <a href="http://www.tech-downloads.com" target="_blank">knowledgebase</a>, it turns out that this is by design &#8212; <a href="http://www.citsphere.com" target="_blank">processor speed</a> is reduced when the machine detects that its relying solely on A/C to prevent it from demanding more power than the adapter alone can provide (and any nasty shutdowns that would result). We don&#8217;t know if we buy this line of reasoning, but one thing is certain: if you know what&#8217;s good for you, you&#8217;ll leave that battery where it belongs.</span></p>
